Man Charged with Murder After Deliberately Driving into Two People

WEST COLUMBUS (Ben Garbarek) -- One person is dead and another seriously hurt after police said a man intentionally mowed them down with his car.

Police said the two people hit told a driver to slow down after she sped through the Kroger parking lot off Wilson Road.  Then that driver's son sped up, hit two cars and then the two people.

Montez Hollins, 24, is being charged with murder for allegedly driving into the couple.  Hollins was apparently driving fast enough to knock two cars out of their parking spots.

"It was loud," said Ashlee Irvin, who works next door to where the crash happened.  "You knew it was an accident and then you see people running and freaking out and you hear people say there are bodies on the ground."

Jason Barry Sr., 35, was pronounced dead at the scene.  Kristina Petree, 34, was rushed to Mount Carmel West.  She is in critical but stable condition.

"It struck me pretty hard," said Tim Phillips, who pulled into the parking lot right as the first police officer arrived on scene.  "I had never seen anybody covered with a sheet.  I had never seen anybody die in front of me and that bothered me."
