Suspect Crashes Car During Grove City Police Chase

COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- Police escorted a driver to a central Ohio hospital after the man crashed his car while attempting to flee a deputy.

The suspect suffered a serious cut to the forehead when he drove off I-71 Southbound just past Stringtown Road in Grove City on Monday morning.

The chase began at approximately 9 a.m. when a Franklin County deputy attempted to stop the suspect for speeding in a Chevrolet Monte Carlo on I-71 near 270.

Instead of pulling over, the driver sped up, leading the pursuing deputy on a short chase before veering off the road and striking a road sign, nearly flipping the car in the process, according to investigators.

Police believe the driver may be responsible for a string of hit-and-run crashes that recently occurred in Columbus. Investigators are examining the Monte Carlo in an effort to determine if the car was involved in those crimes.

Authorities removed the driver from the car at gunpoint, and escorted the ambulance that transported him to Grant Medical Center for treatment. The suspect was placed in handcuffs before he was driven to the hospital.
