Good Samaritan Helps Woman Shot in Shoulder
WESTERVILLE (James Jackson) -- A good samaritan rushes to help a woman, shot in the shoulder. Then he tells ABC 6/FOX 28 he witnessed a second woman pull the gun on herself. It's an incredible sight the man witnessed just four days before Christmas and it's a story he only told ABC 6/FOX 28. Now, he hopes it will end with the sole survivor making a full recovery.
It's a heart-stopping sight David Thangarajah says he'll never shake. He was wrapping Christmas presents, when something caught his attention outside. "Saw a lady crying and in tears and stuff but, I saw smoke around it," Thangarajah said.
Columbus Police say that 54 year-old lady just shot a woman, outside the Remington Station townhomes, in Westerville, around 2:30 this afternoon, after an argument. David says he couldn't believe what he saw seconds later. "She had a gun in her hand and she put the gun to her temple and pulled the trigger," Thangarajah said.
Without hesitating, David runs to help the injured woman. He's a medical assistant, but says no training prepared him for this. "I kept her talking and she was reacting to everything and you know, everything good. Which was definitely a blessing," Thangarajah said.
Neighbors say perhaps the real blessing, that Thangarajah was across the street. He stayed with her, until emergency crews arrived. "It was definitely a good thing that I'm going to carry on for the rest of my life. Knowing that I was there to help her out," Thangarajah said.
We're told the victim is in stable condition at Grant Medical Center. Police are not yet releasing her name or the name of the shooter, who died. They say they're still trying to figure out the motive.
