New Registry for Repeat Drunk Drivers

COLUMBUS (Ben Garbarek) -- The days leading up to New Year's Eve are prime time for drunk drivers and there's a new tool out there to see which people can't seem to stop driving drunk.

The Ohio Department of Public Safety has launched a new and improved online registry for people convicted of OVI five or more times.  Users can search by county or zip code to see which people near them are habitual drunk drivers.

"It gives Ohioans an inside look at just how many people are OVI offenders," said Lt. Ann Ralston with the Ohio State Highway Patrol.  "OVI is a significant issue here in Ohio, as it is across the country.  It's one of the last big behavioral issues we need to tackle here in Ohio."

The registry does not include out-of-state convictions or anything that happened more than 20 years ago.
