DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY: Counterfeit Gifts

COLUMBUS (John Matarese) -- In the rush of online deals during the holidays, customers may think that they are racking up bargains.

However, if the item is counterfeit, it is worth much less than that discounted price.

U.S. Customs officials announced they have shut down -- and seized the domain names -- of more than 700 websites offering counterfeit goods. The products sold included handbags, shoes, headphones, sports jerseys and NFL merchandise. Some used legitimate NFL team names, making them look official.

The Federal Trade Commission warns consumers to beware websites that do not include a company street address. Also, "https" in the web address is a sign of a secure website.

Shoppers are urged to be suspicious of any website without a recognizable name and skeptical of exceptionally low prices.
