Fire Risk Forces Recall of Christmas Trees Sold at Menards

COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- Nearly 2000 pre-lit Christmas trees have been recalled because of the risk of fire, shocks, and burns.

The recall is a result of overheating issues involving light strings on approximately 1800 Seasonal Specialties Twinkling Pine pre-lit trees, which are sold exclusively at Menards.

Menards officials have received two reports of overheating issues related to the Seasonal Specialties trees, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The trees stand 7 1/2 feet tall and include 400 twinkling lights. The model number of the recalled trees is 287-1261; the UPC code is 741895425478. Both numbers are printed on the product boxes and on red tags attached to the trees' branches.

Customers who purchased the recalled trees are advised to unplug the items immediately. The trees, which were sold for approximately $300, can be returned to Menards for full refunds.
