Father of Son Killed in Sandy Hook Shooting Visits Ohio Lawmakers
COLUMBUS (Chris Vanocur/Kate Liebers) -- The upcoming one-year anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary massacre has inspired one victim's father to spend time with Ohio lawmakers.
Mark Barden -- whose 7-year-old son was among the 26 people murdered in the Newtown, Conn. school shooting -- visited Columbus to testify in favor of a gun safety bill
The bill would require guns to be securely stored when children are present.
"I am going to look at the committee and say, 'You have an opportunity to prevent another family from going through what my family is going through right now,'" Barden said.
Barden said he plans to spend the anniversary weekend in "quiet reflection" with his family.
Until then, he said he hopes his voice is heard in Ohio.
"The anniversary of the shooting in Sandy Hook School that killed my son is Saturday," Barden said. "I feel I should be home with my family but I feel like I can be of greater service here."
