Cashier Describes Armed Robbery in Upper Arlington

UPPER ARLINGTON -- An armed, masked thief stole a bag of cash from the Speedway on Lane Avenue Monday night -- a crime the cashier is unlikely to forget.

Cashier Jamel Jackson said he had not even acknowledged the man's presence until he was pointing a gun in his face.

"I was ringing up a customer," Jackson said. "I didn't see him come in. I didn't even see the gun. Next thing I know, he racked the shotgun and pointed it at me and said put the money in the bag."

He said he was in shock when a lime green bag was thrown his direction.

"I was trying to process it all. Is this real? Is this really going on?" Jackson said. "Then he started counting down from five and I open the drawer and tossed the bag back to him."

Two customers ran out while another stayed. Through it all, Jackson stayed calm.

"I'm just happy I'm ok and everyone's ok," he said. "No one got hurt."

The suspect was wearing a camouflage mask and a jacket with a dragon on the back.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Upper Arlington Police Department at 614-583-5150.
