More Sexual Affairs Alleged at Fire Station
HILLTOP (Ben Garbarek) -- The sex scandal at a west side firehouse continues to grow as a third affair is being alleged by another firefighter.
The latest allegations are coming out of the investigation into another possible affair.
The scandal at Station 17 started when Firefighter Marc Cain was accused of having a two-year affair with an 18 year-old while on duty. The investigation into that relationship revealed a possible affair between Battalion Chief Jerry Birkhimer and a female firefighter.
An investigation into that second affair leads to the latest accusations.
"He was sneaking girls into his bedroom," said a firefighter at Station 17 during his interview with investigators. "We would come back from runs and a vehicle would be parked and the cops would ask us who is the girl crawling through the windows."
This firefighter puts the blame for all the affairs at the top of the chain of command.
"It seemed like certain people were trying to get away with whatever they could get away with there," he said. "They took advantage of a lack of supervision that was at Station 17."
Birkhimer and the woman accused of being in the affair both deny the allegations. They said they were behind closed doors on a few occasions, but they said they closed the door to talk about sensitive matters at the station.
