Franklin Co. Deputies to Increase DUI Patrols on New Year's Eve

COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- Franklin County deputies are increasing their presence on central Ohio roads in order to catch New Year's Eve partiers who choose to drink and drive.

Members of the Franklin County DUI Task Force have increased patrols throughout the holiday season, and will continue the effort through New Year's Day.

Task force operators have provided the following tips for central Ohioans who plan to drink on New Year's Eve in order to reduce the number of crashes and arrests associated with drunk driving over the holiday:

  • Plan ahead and designate a sober driver.
  • If impaired, call a taxi -- or call a sober friend or family member to come and get you, or just stay where you are and sleep it off until you are sober
  • Friends Don't Let Friends Drive Drunk. Take the keys and never let a friend leave your sight if you think they are about to drive while impaired.
