Bike Donated after Thieves Steal Cancer Patient's Ride
GAHANNA (James Jackson) -- A cancer patient who lost her bike to thieves last week got an early Christmas Tuesday.
Drema Foster first appeared on ABC 6 to ask the public to help reunite her with the bike, her main mode of transportation following her cancer treatment. She said it was stolen last month during a trip to the Columbus Metropolitan Library's Whitehall branch.
Rather than wait for the original bike to be recovered, however, a viewer decided to give Foster a brand new ride.
Buying a bike was new for donor Diane Salerno, but the cancer recovery process was not. Salerno's husband also battles the deadly disease.
"He's a trooper and a fighter," she said. "Due to the chemotherapy, he's developed neuropathy in his feet -- so I know what it's like for (Foster)."
ABC 6 captured the surprise delivery at Foster's house this week.
"Oh my gosh! I certainly was not expecting this," Foster said.
She has referred to her new ride as the Rolls Royce of bikes.
She said she wants to take part in a run to raise money for cancer awareness and was told she could ride her bike.
