Convicted Baby Killers Get Life Sentences
COLUMBUS (Brooks Jarosz) -- A Toledo woman and her boyfriend pleaded guilty Tuesday to the death of her 19-month-old baby.
Elaina Steinfurth was found dead earlier this year, three months after she was reported missing.
The baby's mother, Angela Steinfurth, was tearful and upset. She still maintained her innocence in the death of her daughter.
She entered an Alford Plea, which is a type of guilty plea in which the defendant only acknowledges that prosecutors have enough evidence to convict her.
Steinfurth admitted she tossed Elaina across the room when the baby would not stop crying.
Steinfurth will serve her life in prison with eligibility for parole in 18 years.
Her ex-boyfriend, Steven King, pleaded guilty to aggravated murder, tampering with evidence, abuse of a corpse and obstructing justice.
King said he found Elaina injured and tried to resuscitate her, but later smothered her and put her in a box.
Police reportedly found the baby's body months later in King's garage.
King's plea deal calls for a life sentence with the possibility of parole in 25 years.
