The Best Words of 2013 (and Their Definitions)

COLUMBUS -- The following is a list of popular words that made it into our vernacular this year. The New York Times compiled a list of about two dozen words that surfaced in 2013. Of those words, ABC 6/FOX 28 pulled some of the quirkiest.

Cronut: A "wonderful pastry that is part croissant, part doughnut and part hype."

Fatberg: A 15-ton, bus-sized toxic ball of fat, grease and solid sewage. Such material was found in a London sewer this year.

Feels: A plural noun used in response to something that is emotional and moving. For example, as cited in the New York Times, "That got me right in the feels, bro."

Selfie: A self-portrait, typically taken with one's smart phone.

Sharknado: A made-for-TV movie featuring sharks that are hurled about by a tornado.

Twerk: A dance involving vigorous shaking and thrusting of the rear end.
