Winter Weather Has Tow Truck Drivers Busy

NORTH COLUMBUS (James Jackson) -- Winter weather has tow truck drivers busy tonight. Herman Dague owns A/T Towing and Recovery. ABC 6/FOX 28 went along with crews for the evening. When the white stuff comes down, the requests come in. "Most of it is sliding off the road. Getting stuck. Minor and major fender benders," Dague said.

Dague says those fender benders account for 20 to 50 calls a night. His crew of 7, plus part-timers, works overtime. 4 trucks patrol the roads, around the clock. "Most everyone will work as much as they can. I mean you know. Be on call 24 hours a day until this all clears up," Dague said.

While our cameras were rolling, a call came in from the North side. A man had car trouble and called A/T to tow it away. It took Herman about ten minutes to hook it up and haul it off. But, it won't be the last. He says be patient with your car, when coming to a stop. "A lot of people don't allow you know enough time for stopping. Stopping distance when it gets slick out," Dague said.

When it's slick, Herman says it's usually a bigger payday. But, that's not his priority. He says he's in the business of helping people out... Especially during the holidays.

Herman says the peak hours he sees accidents are during rush hour, when crowds of people drive home.
