Suspect in Robbery of 82 Year-Old Woman Arrested

WORTHINGTON (Ben Garbarek) -- Police believe the man responsible for the attack of an 82 year old Worthington woman is in custody.

Worthington Police have identified Wesley Rees as the suspect that approached the elderly woman in a Kroger parking lot near near High Street and Wilson Bridge Road in Worthington.

35-year-old Rees was driving a white van that was stolen a few hours earlier in Northeast Columbus.  The van was warming up outside a man's house before he left for work.

The suspected car thief went to Kroger and grabbed the elderly woman's purse.  She chased him back to the van and held on to the driver's side door as he drove off.

The woman was not seriously hurt but was taken to a hospital to be checked out.

Rees was arrested by Columbus Police early Saturday morning on unrelated charges.

He has been charged with one count of robbery by the Worthington Police Department.

Rees remains in the Franklin County Jail.
