Crash Knocks Pole to Ground, Closes SE Columbus Road

COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- A busy stretch of road will remain closed for several hours Tuesday as workers repair a utility pole that was knocked to the ground by a car on the city's Southeast Side.

The vehicle struck a pole on Shannon Road at approximately 6:30 a.m., causing power lines to fall on to the street.

AEP crews will remove the lines from the road, and then replace the damaged pole. The work will likely prevent drivers from accessing Shannon Road from Winchester Pike to Cracker Cove Lane for the majority of the day.

Some motorists refused to acknowledge the road closure on Tuesday morning, attempting to drive around a police car that was blocking the route. Officers eventually placed flares on the ground to deter such actions.

Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the crash that knocked the pole to the ground. The driver of that car was not hurt.
