Canal Winchester, Gahanna Banks Robbed; Police Explore Possible Link

COLUMBUS (Ken Hines/Kate Liebers) -- Police are searching for an armed suspect who fled in a mini-van after robbing a Canal Winchester bank.

The armed, unidentified suspect stole and undisclosed amount of cash from Huntington Bank at 3680 Gender Road at approximately 10 a.m. Friday. The man allegedly handed the teller a note demanding money and, after taking the money, displayed a handgun.

The subject was observed running across an open field, through a hole in a wooden fence and entering a gray Honda Odyssey minivan, according to police.

Shortly after the crime at Huntington, an unidentified suspect robbed Wesbanco Bank at 116 S. Stygler Road in Gahanna. Investigators have not yet determined if the robberies are related.

The Huntington Bank robber suspect was described as a light-skinned black man in his mid- to late-20s, approximately 6 feet tall with a medium build and a mustache. He was wearing white gloves, a black baseball cap with a white Nike trademark logo, and a black hoodie.

Officers asked anyone with information about the robbery to contact the FBI at 614-224-1183 or the Columbus Division of Police at 614-645-4545.
