Police Fire on Burglary Suspects in Dublin-Area Parking Lot

COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- Police apprehended three suspects after opening fire during a store break-in, but officers are still searching for one of the alleged burglars.

Officers fired at an SUV that allegedly contained four burglary suspects in a shopping center parking lot at Sawmill and Hard Roads in the Dublin area late Sunday night.

The suspect driving the SUV attempted to strike at least one officer with the vehicle, leading police to discharge their weapons, according to investigators. No one was hit by the gunfire.

Employees of neighboring stores were surprised to find police officers and shell casings in their parking lot when they arrived to work Monday morning.

"It's unsettling, you know. It's the holiday season and we're all trying to make a living and we're all small businesses," Sawmill Florest owner Penny Palanca said.

A police source told ABC 6/FOX 28 that undercover officers followed the suspects' vehicle to the Oreck store on Sawmill Road in connection with an investigation into multiple break-ins in the area, and confronted the alleged burglars after they entered the shop.

The suspects were able to exit the shopping center parking lot in the SUV, but the vehicle soon came to a stop on a nearby Stanburn Road lawn, where three of the four suspects were taken into custody. The fourth suspect remains at large.

One officer suffered minor injuries during the altercation.
