3rd Suspect Arrested in SE Columbus Drug-Related Murder

COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- A woman has been arrested for the murder of her alleged partner in an illegal drug business.

Melanie Spears turned herself into police on Tuesday in connection with the murder of Shaun Fullen inside the victim's Southeast Columbus apartment on November 21.

Spears's told investigators she had recently teamed up with Fullen  --  the son of a Columbus fire battalion chief and a Columbus police detective -- to sell marijuana and prescription pills, and visited Fullen's home multiple times on the night of his death.

Detectives believe Spears planned a robbery of Fullen's apartment with her accomplice, Derrick Robinson, who allegedly shot the victim in the chest when he found the suspects inside his home.

After the murder, Spears and Robinson allegedly fled Fullen's home with stolen cash, guns, and drugs.

Bail amounts of $2 million have been set for Spears and Robinson.

A third suspect, Ryan Messer, was found with one of the stolen guns in his possession, according to court documents. He was arraigned on charges of tampering with evidence and receiving stolen property, and is being held by authorities on a $100,000 bail amount.
