Police: Wrong-Way I-71 Driver Likely Drunk

COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- Police think a motorist was drunk when he drove the wrong way on I-71 after fleeing the scene of a car crash early Wednesday morning in the OSU campus area.

The driver failed to stop after striking a vehicle at the intersection of 4th Street and 17th Avenue at approximately 2:30 a.m., according to investigators.

The suspect then allegedly drove on to I-71, where he traveled in the wrong direction until he was stopped by police near Broad Street.

Police believe the driver was drunk when the crash occurred, but have not filed any alcohol-related charges.

The driver of the car struck by the suspect was not seriously hurt.
