Fairfield Co. Authorities Charge Teacher with Sending Nude Pic to Student

COLUMBUS (Ken Hines/Kate Liebers) -- A Fairfield County high school teacher accused of sending at least one nude photo to a student was criminally charged.

Former Fisher Catholic High School vocal music teacher Kathleen Thomas was charged with disseminating matter harmful to juveniles on Monday, months after allegedly sending inappropriate text messages to a 17-year-old student. Thomas also faces a charge of telecommunication harassment.

Both charges are misdemeanors.

The student emailed a nude photo of Thomas to police in October, leading to a Lancaster Police investigation that resulted in the charges.

The student told police Thomas asked him to respond to the text with a nude picture of his own. He said he complied with her request, but soon felt uncomfortable with the nature of the messages.

Thomas, 26, was suspended by Fisher Catholic officials while police investigated the student's claims. The school announced last week that Thomas had been fired. She had worked at the school for five years.

Both charges filed against Thomas are misdemeanors. Authorities plan to issue a subpoena for the teacher, but do not plan to arrest her.

Officers do not believe there are any other victims.
