Hit-Skip Damages Pickerington Charity Light Display

PICKERINGTON (Lu Ann Stoia) -- A neighborhood Christmas lights display was damaged Monday after a hit-skip.

Robert Smith had started the animated lights display in the Havencroft Drive area to collect donations for Lutheran Social Services food pantries and soup kitchens. Five homeowners in the area had joined.

Smith's plans hit a detour, however, when someone allegedly skidded through an intersection in front of his house, damaging a Christmas Story-themed display. The driver fled the scene.

Smith was able to fix most of the display, but was still upset that the driver didn't stop.

He could have knocked on the door and said, 'Sorry, the roads are slippery' or 'I had bad tires.' I am still kind of upset.

Smith said the group is still collecting food to donate and hopes people will continue bringing non-perishable items.
