FedEx Employees Arrested for Whitehall Thefts

COLUMBUS (Lisa Rantala/Kate Liebers) -- Two Fed Ex employees in Whitehall have allegedly been stealing from shipped packages.

Alvin Revels, 20, and Miguel Graves, 19, were arrested and charged with theft after supervisors found thousands of dollars' worth of phones during a pat down.

The shipping company had begun checking its employees after suspicions of thefts were raised a few days prior.

One of the suspects admitted to taking three phones. He told police he got it from a box already opened and slid it down his boot.

The other wrote in a police confession that his family situation led him to steal the merchandise.

Sgt. Dan Kelso of the Whitehall Police Department said the criminal activity was "not typical to FedEx," but that thieves, in general, tend to be opportunists.

"That's how people are, unfortunately," he said. "Especially this time of year, when you have so many goods going back and forth."

Police said these arrests should serve as a lesson to customers.

"Make sure you get your packages insured," Kelso said.
