Crowd Breaks Eastland Mall Doors Waiting For Sneaker Tickets

EAST COLUMBUS (Jen French) Police say a crowd of more than 300 people waiting  for Air Jordan 11 reservation tickets at Eastland  Mall became unruly Sunday morning. The popular sneakers go on sale this Saturday.

Customers said the footwear and sporting goods store Champs was giving out 120 vouchers for the shoes. Other stores were giving away raffle tickets.

Shawn Agee and his brother K-Shawn camped out at Eastland mall late Saturday night. Both were able to get their tickets.

Like, they were rushing trying to get them shoes. As soon as they pushed the door, they pushed the door open and made it fall down, Shawn Agee said.

An estimated 35 Columbus Police officers showed up to keep the crowd under control. Though a woman was hurt, no one needed to go to the hospital. Police said the crowd broke the malls glass doors. Damages are estimated to be around $10,000.

We did the best we could to keep things orderlybut these things need to change in the future, Lt. Dave Hughes said.

Eastland Mall spokespeople told ABC 6/FOX 28 managers are not available to comment until Monday.

Its kind of messed up, but youre worried about your shoes and youre trying to get your shoes and you dont want to miss out, K-Shawn Agee said.
