Raids on Suspected Columbus Gangs Lead to Several Arrests

COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- Authorities arrested more than a dozen people Wednesday morning during a series of raids focused on alleged gang activity in central Ohio.

The arrested suspects are expected to appear in federal court in Columbus on Wednesday afternoon, just hours after being taken into custody on drug and weapons charges.

The suspects are believed to be associated with a gang called the Short North Posse. Police suspect the gang of involvement in the trafficking of cocaine, heroin, and oxycontin, among other crimes.

The arrested suspects face at least 10 years in prison as a result of the federal charges.

Agents have also targeted alleged gang members or associates in West Virginia in connection with the investigation into the Short North Posse.

FBI agents and federal prosecutors are scheduled to discuss the arrests at a news conference at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Columbus.
