Facebook Users Outraged Over Columbus City Schools Scandal
COLUMBUS (Chris Vanocur/Kate Liebers) -- On Tuesday, the Ohio Auditor Dave Yost called the Columbus City Schools district scandal a "story of tears and sadness."
When ABC 6/FOX 28 Facebook followers were asked to describe the data-doctoring incident in their own words, their responses were as overwhelming as they were passionate.
While most comments criticized the administration -- using words like "disgrace," "shameful," and "corruption" -- others offered some empathy.
Such people instead directed their criticism toward the parents, whom they said should not have let their child's grades slip below a D in the first place.
"(Then) there would not be a reason for teachers to use unethical tactics like this," as one user stated.
Others expressed outrage toward former superintendent Gene Harris, who held her position while the apparent data-scrubbing was taking place. She retired while the investigation was underway.
The auditor's special investigation followed allegations that the CCS administration was changing students' records to improve the district's state report card.
