Alleged Domestic Assault Leads to Standoff in Whitehall

COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- Police evacuated two Whitehall apartments early Thursday morning after a man allegedly pistol-whipped the mother of his child, and then held a gun to the woman's head.

Police arrived at the apartment at 48 Fairway Blvd. at approximately 4 a.m., and saw the suspect waving a gun while hanging out of a second-floor window -- possibly aiming the weapon at officers, according to investigators.

The incident began when the suspect discovered that the female occupant of the home -- which whom he shares a child -- changed the locks of the apartment without his knowledge while he was in West Virginia, according to police.

After gaining entry to the home by breaking down the door, the man allegedly struck the woman with the gun, and then held the firearm to her head.

Police officers set up a perimeter around the complex after seeing the suspect with the gun, and evacuated two neighboring apartments as a precaution.

Officers were eventually able to convince the suspect to leave the apartment, at which time he was arrested. The victim was transported to a Columbus hospital with a cut on her head.
