Robbers Surprise Workers at E. Columbus Grocery Store

COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) -- Employees of an East Side grocery store were greeted by two robbers when they arrived at work on Monday morning.

The unidentified suspects entered Aldi on Gender Road through the roof of the store at approximately 1 a.m. and unsuccessfully tried to gain access to the safe, according to police.

The suspects then waited for employees to arrive at work at 6 a.m., at which time they allegedly forced them to open the safe.

The suspects fled the store on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. They were armed with unspecified pieces of metal during the robbery, according to investigators.

Police followed footprints allegedly left by the suspects to a condo complex approximately one mile from Aldi. Investigators believe the men parked their car at that complex before committing the robbery.
