Man Arrested in Chillicothe Storm Drain

CHILLICOTHE (Rob Wells) -- Police said they had to flush a suspect from a storm drain pipe in order to put him behind bars.

The unusual tactic stemmed from a reported burglary in the area of Plyleys Lane. Chillicothe officers said the pursued two men on foot before one suspect vanished underground.

Investigators said the suspect somehow got into a three-foot wide storm pipe and scurried several feet down the street.

"They tried to use pepper spray to get him out then eventually they brought in the fire department to flush him out with water," CPD Capt. Larry Bromfield said.

Blake Sherrick, 20, was arrested an hour after the suspect went underground.

Officers descended into the storm drain Thursday to look for the stolen goods and other evidence. The victim said that a pistol was among the missing items.

"If something is in there it could be dangerous. It could be flushed out and a child could find it," Bromfield said. "We don't want that to happen."
