Trucker Sentenced after Fatal Crash in Columbus

COLUMBUS (Jen French) -- A trucker was sentenced to 180 days in prison after he allegedly crashed into stand-still highway traffic, killing two women.

Robin Jones, 48, and Diana Schwab, 71, died in the May crash. The families of both victims appeared in court while Tony Smith of Chicago was sentenced.

Investigators said the crash happened when Smith failed to noticed slowing traffic on Interstate 70 near Wilson Road in West Columbus. Smiths truck apparently clipped a jeep, hit two cars and a second semi, according to investigators.

Smiths attorney said he had no driving violations prior to this crash. Smith no longer works for Greatwide American Trans-Freight, a company based in Pennsylvania. His commercial license was suspended.
