Man Accused of Murdering Pizza Delivery Woman Appears in Court

COLUMBUS -- The man charged with killing a pizza delivery worker told a judge he could not afford an attorney.

Authorities have not released the cause of 26-year-old Kayla Thompson's death, nor the suspect's possible motive.

Adam Burris was charged with murder after he led police to Thompson's body.

Last week, officers had been called to Burris' Guernsey County home when Thompson did not return from a delivery to that location. The suspect's girlfriend said he had left in the pizza delivery car.

Following a tip from the suspect's girlfriend, who was at the residence, law enforcement found Burris driving Thompson's delivery car on Interstate 70.

Burris then led officers to Dillon State Park, just north of Zanesville. Thompson's body was found near a boat ramp.

Thompson was a single mother of a three-year-old toddler and a two-month-old baby.

"I just can't believe that something like that would happen," said the victim's sister, Melissa Bebout. "All she was doing was trying to work to take care of the babies and I don't even understand."

Burris is in jail under a $1-million bond. He is expected back in court Tuesday.
