Missing Gahanna Girl Found Safe, Dad Charged with Abduction

GAHANNA (Kate Liebers) -- Officers apprehended two suspects a few hours after an an Amber Alert was issued for a missing 5-year-old girl.

Nicholas Barnhart, the girl's non-custodial father, was apprehended and charged with abduction, according to police. Barnhart's girlfriend, who was with Barnhart during his arrest, was transported to Gahanna Division of Police for questioning.

The missing girl, Ella Barnhart, was abducted around 3:15 p.m. Monday from her home in the Vista apartment complex near Hamilton and Morse roads, according to police.

Officers had suspected Barnhart had kidnapped her and was taking her to North Carolina.

An Amber Alert warned law enforcement to be on the lookout for a gray 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer with North Carolina plates. About two hours after the alert was issued, a trooper stopped a silver Honda Civic with North Carolina plates in the Logan area of US-33.
 
Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers and Hocking County sheriff deputies confirmed the missing girl was in the vehicle, and did not appear to have suffered any injuries.
