Troopers said Zone Sergeant Jason Cawley responded after Tioga County 911 Dispatch received several calls about a driver who ran off the road and needed help, but wasn't located. Sgt. Cawley drove to the area of State Route 17C in Owego but couldn't find the driver.

Then, Sgt. Cawley saw a row of mailboxes and started to dig through the snow to check addresses when he ended up hitting a windshield of a car and inside was the man who had been calling 911 for help.

Troopers say the man was stranded for 10 hours with no heat due to a broken serpentine belt and was suffering from hypothermia and frostbite.

The man was removed from the car and taken to the hospital for treatment.  His condition as of this morning is unknown but the trooper said he learned the car had been covered in four feet of snow after a plow truck covered him with snow.
