NORTH COLLEGE HILL, Ohio (WKRC) - If you’re still looking for something fun to do this holiday season, you might want to check out a home in North College Hill, Ohio.

It’s not officially the holiday season until the lights turn on and the decorations come out at 2032 West Galbraith Road.

For the last 50 years, the North College Hill home has been a major Christmas lights attraction in the region.

“We’ve got people, since we’ve been doing this for 50 years, families are bringing their families now,” homeowner Bill Zapf said. “I think one year they were claiming it was five generations.”

The tradition started in 1970 when Zapf was just nine years old.

“Dad wanted to start a display here that other people could come and look at and go, ‘Ooh’ and ‘Ahh’ so it was like a payback that he remembers from his childhood that people can come here and share the glow, as he called it,” Zapf said.

When his dad died in 2008, Zapf knew he had to continue the tradition.

“I can remember certain figurines that [my dad] and I went to the store after Christmas at 4:00 in the morning and stood in line because he wanted that train and we stood in line to get that,” he said. “Almost each piece in the yard I could probably tell you a little story behind.”

Each year, Zapf adds to the decorations and lights to make the experience bigger and better.

“If I decided to move or something, I’d feel sorry for the person who bought this house because they’d have to lock their door because everyone would be knocking saying, ‘Where’s the display? Where’s the display?’”
