Columbus City Schools celebrates state basketball championship with downtown parade


Columbus City Schools celebrated a state championship for their Lady Nubian Girls Basketball team with a parade through downtown Monday morning.

The school district said over 600 students from Columbus Africentric Early College, Grades 3 - 12, and crowds of supporters congratulated the team on a record-making and memorable basketball season that ended with an unprecedented sixth Division III State Championship.

The school's marching band, cheerleaders and drill teams performed in the parade as it headed north on Civic Center Drive towards City Hall for a pep rally.

Members of the Columbus Board of Education and representatives from City Hall and the Ohio Statehouse spoke at the event.
