COLUMBUS, Ohio — Millie Feasel says she has no secret to living a long life, but she's celebrating her 100th birthday this week at the southwest Columbus hardware store where she's worked for more than a half century.
"It gives me something to do," Millie said. "We have good customers and good bosses. Everything is pretty good."
Coworkers at Zettler Hardware located just off Harrisburg Pike surprised Millie Tuesday with flowers and a big banner wishing her a Happy Birthday. Customers brought her a variety of gifts, including chocolates and other candy. Rose Ferguson created a cake with Millie's picture on it and also baked a pineapple upside-down cake, which is Millie's favorite.
"Millie teaches you that life is worth living," Ferguson said. "When she's behind the register she's the most pleasant individual you would ever meet."
Millie still works 8 am - 12 pm weekdays, and she even drives a roughly mile-long commute most days. She has no plans on retiring any time, and she says she loves her job because of her coworkers and customers.
"You can't do it without your friends," Millie said.
