1 person killed, 3 others shot at vigil for south side murder victim
One person was killed and three others were hurt when a shooter opened fire at a group of people gathered for a vigil in South Columbus Wednesday night.
Chaz Robertson, 32, died at a hospital after he was shot at 284 East Barthman Avenue shortly after 9:00 pm, police said.
A nine-year-old girl and two adults were being treated for injuries at hospitals. Police expected them to survive.
No other additional have been released.
Police described the shooting as a "drive by," and it happened at the same location where Brandon Meeks, 29, was murdered on December 11th.
A motive wasn't known and police had no suspects for the latest shooting.
Homicide Sgt. Stan Latta said police were investigating whether or not it was some form of retaliation.
"This violence is getting out of hand," Latta said. "We need to try and do something to try to keep our community safe as possible, and keep people safe who live here and find people who are responsible to hold them accountable."
Earlier this week, investigators said they were questioning a "person of interest" for the shooting death of Meeks, but police haven't said whether or not an arrest has been made in that case.
Robertson is the 132nd homicide victim in Columbus for 2017.
