One teen is dead, another injured after police say someone broke into a home and then opened fire overnight. Columbus Police are now searching for the person responsible.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting just after 12:32 a.m. on West Welch Avenue. They say that's when they found two teens, one boy and one girl, suffering from gunshot wounds.

A 15-year-old girl, who was later identified as Shamya Saultz, died after being rushed to Grant Medical Center. A 14-year-old boy who was also shot was listed in stable condition.

Witnesses at the scene told police someone wearing all black entered the home and opened fire at a family gathering, hitting the two teenagers. People in the area said the neighborhood is mostly quiet, but trouble started brewing a few weeks ago after a baby was born. They weren't sure who the baby belonged to, only that it was not at the apartment last night.

Neighbors also said the teens would often stay overnight with their grandmother, who lived at the apartment with her adult son. They say everyone called that woman "Granny", and she would feed anyone who was hungry.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact Columbus Police Homicide Unit at (614) 645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at (614) 461-TIPS.
