2 die, 2 survive after tree hits camper in southwest Ohio
FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC) - A falling tree crushes a grandmother and a child on Friday. Two others survived.
It happened at Ryan's Run RV Park along US 52 in Franklin Township
The 911 call came in around 2:15 a.m. from a different camper at the RV park, saying a tree had fallen on David and Patricia Brandenburg's camper. Not a branch, but an entire tree which uprooted and fell over, even though it was neither windy nor rainy at the time.
51-year-old David Brandenburg and one of the couple's 2-year-old twin granddaughters got out safely, but 46-year-old Patricia Brandenburg and the other twin toddler were crushed.
In a small place like Franklin Township, some of the rescuers knew the victim, Patricia.
“Everybody knew who they were. like you said it's a small town. everybody eats at the same restaurants, so we all kind of know who's who,” said
Nobody wanted to go on camera, but everyone Local 12 Jeff Hirsh talked with, about half a dozen people, all said Patricia Brandenburg was a great person, well respected and well liked/
It took three hours for firefighters to get into the crushed camper, but it was too late.
Other campers who had called 911 tried to get in as well and you can even hear them banging on the door during the 911 call, to no avail.
The names of the twins, both the one who survived and the one who was killed, are not being released at this time.
