FAYETTE COUNTY, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) -- Several fire departments are battling a massive blaze at a farm that killed thousands of pigs in Fayette County.

According to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, a fire a broke out at the Straathoff Swine Farm on Old U.S. 35 SE around 1:08 p.m. Officials said flames quickly spread throughout the facility, causing intense heat and extremely heavy smoke, making it difficult for firefighters to battle the interior of the fire.

One firefighter suffered an arm injury and was taken to Fayette County Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released.

The State Fire Marshal's Office has been requested to the scene to investigate the cause, which has yet to be determined.

Firefighters from Fayette, Pickaway, Ross, Highland, and Greene counties were dispatched to the fire.
