Charity organization to raise $100,000 for central Ohio LGBTQ youth
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) -- They've helped LGBTQ youth in central Ohio since 1994. Now, they're getting some major financial help of their own.
Officials from the Kaleidoscope Youth Center said they were surprised when they got a call from a group called "Next Level Gives."
It's a philanthropic arm of Next Level Trainings, which helps raise funds for worthy causes that serve the needs of people in central Ohio.
Officials from Next Level said they plan to raise $100,000 in 30 days to help Kaleidoscope, which provides everything from counseling to after school activities to LGBTQ youth ages 12 to 20 in central Ohio.
"We were looking for an organization that we could support our values of love and healing," said Jessica Dixon from Next Level Gives.
So, far the group has raised more than $50,000 with a goal of $100,000 through everything from variety shows to an '80s dance party event.
The money will help operate the organization's new outreach facility in the Discovery District, but that's not all.
"We have possibilities opened up to us as far as outreach for youth and need that would include youth that are homeless or youth with disabilities," said Kaleidoscope executive director Amy Eldridge.
She said the group has never received so much support and is overwhelmed by the generosity of others.
A wine tasting event is scheduled for Thursday night as part of those fundraising efforts.
