Chess coach accused of fondling students takes the stand in his defense

A Delaware County is jury expected to get the case tomorrow of a chess teacher accused of abusing two of his young students.

    F. Leon Wilson, 62, took the stand this afternoon, denying charges he inappropriately touched the students, including one who is four-years-old. Wilson faces three counts of gross sexual imposition.

Wilson was arrested last spring at Port Columbus Airport after returning from a chess tournament in Greece.

On the witness stand, Wilson testified he never touched the students in a sexual manner when he was around them. He admitted he did touch one of the girls, when they won the state chess championship, but he only put his arm around her in a congratulatory manner.

Police say the illicit behavior happened when Wilson worked at a private and public school last year in Bexley and Delaware.

Closing arguments are scheduled for 8:30 Friday morning.
