Columbus Police are investigating after a man walked into a northeast Columbus urgent care with a gunshot wound to the stomach.

At about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to the urgent care at 2880 Stelzer Road on the report of a person who had walked in with a gunshot wound.

When police arrived, they made contact with Charles Burton IV, 40, who said he was shot in the Easton area. He had a gunshot wound to the stomach and was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

Burton told police he met up with someone to make a transaction and after words were exchanged, Burton decided to leave, according to police. Burton told police as he was getting out of the suspect's vehicle, Burton was shot in the stomach.

Burton then pulled out his own pistol and returned fire at the suspects.

Police said it is unclear if he struck anyone.

The incident remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact Felony Assualt Unit Det. David Younker.
