Delay in Austin vote pumps up Columbus Crew SC fans
A move to table the vote for a new proposed Crew SC stadium in Austin, Texas gave even more hope to fans in central Ohio that the team will remain in central Ohio.
While the Thursday night proposal by Crew owner Anthony Precourt got support from the mayor, other council members said the proposed site could also be used for other ventures including new housing or public parks.
Austin officials said discussion will continue on the proposed stadium at McKalla Place August 15th, along with public comments that are expected to last several hours.
"I think that Mr. Precourt is trying to get the best deal that he can, and not pay anything" said Crew SC fan Pat Dawson.
Precourt first introduced the possibility of moving the 22-year old franchise last year.
Since then, supporters have stood behind the team and any effort to keep the Crew SC in Ohio.
"I think it would be an unmitigated disaster for the MLS to move the team out of Columbus, we're the original MLS franchise and I think that moving the Crew would send shockwaves across the league, and the soccer league at large" said Save The Crew member David Miller.
