Grandview Heights police investigating the death of 17-year-old girl
Grandview Heights police are investigating the death of 17-year-old Haleah Myers. Medics were called March 31 to the basement of a home on Broadview Avenue where Myers was in respiratory distress. Myers died at the hospital on Thursday and now her family is looking for answers as to what happened.
Police said they made arrests of a father and son at the address for possession of needles and other drug paraphernalia. Police said they are waiting for lab results on substances found at the home.
Myers mother Jill Coons said “my daughter was taken too young. I am devastated and planning my best friend’s funeral.”
Family friend Madeira Turner said the teen was sweet and outgoing.
“I can’t believe Haleah is gone. I know she needed more adults in her corner. I know that she was very loved. But somebody needs to be accountable for her death.”
Teens who live in the neighborhood said they have seen police and medics at the home a number of times.
“I didn’t know that something like that could happen in Grandview, even on my own street.”
Police said they are waiting for toxicology and lab reports and that they are in the middle of an “active investigation.”
The family has started a GoFundMe account to pay for medical and funeral expenses.
