Infant, teen among three people killed after head-on crash in Ross County
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol is urging drivers to wear their seat belts after three people died in an head-on crash late Wednesday night.
Troopers responded to a two-vehicle collision on County Road 550 near Maple Grove Road at 11:38 p.m.
Investigators said 21-year-old Monica Arledge,of Chillicothe, was driving a 1995 Lincoln Continental westbound when the car went left of center and struck an eastbound 2006 Chevrolet 2500 pickup, driven by 27-year-old Shane Gifford, of Laurelville.
The impact of the crash ejected 14-year-old Bodhi Arledge, of Frankfort, and three-month-old Addilee Seacrest, of Chillicothe, from the Continental. The children and the driver were all pronounced dead on the scene.
A family traveling in the pickup was taken to the hospital and released.
Michael McDonie lives near the crash site and rushed over to help, but knew it was too late when he arrived.
"The children's pretty rough for me. It's pretty rough because they're so young. The young girl driving, she's my son's age,” said McDonie.
McDonie and his neighbor, Kelly Conley, say the stretch of County Road 550 they live on is prone to a lot of accidents.
"Definitely one of the worst accidents we've seen here, but not a surprise, we've had several right in our yard even,” said Conley.
Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
