"It's heartbreaking. It's tragic." Man accused of killing his friend in Adams County
PEEBLES, Ohio (WKRC)- An Adams County man is behind bars, accused of shooting and killing his friend early Tuesday morning.
Samantha Hopkins lives near where the shooting happened. She got an alert that her son's bus wasn't able to pick him up Tuesday morning, so she headed out to take him.
"Deputies had the road blocked off, but I wasn't really sure what it was related to. We had some high water down the street here so, I wasn't sure what was going on," Hopkins said.
Hopkins said she heard something had happened through text messages.
"Kind of hearsay. People had heard some things on the scanners. Nothing definite of course," Hopkins said.
Adams Co. Sheriff Kimmy Rogers says they got a call for help around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.
"The call came in something to the effect of a head injury to an individual. So, we sent a squad and one of the deputies went," Sheriff Rogers said.
Sheriff Rogers said Jesse Williams, 20, shot and killed his friend. The sheriff wouldn't talk about why he thinks Williams pulled the trigger but said the two had gotten in an argument over something.
Sheriff Rogers isn't releasing the victim's name because he's only 17.
The sheriff said drugs are not involved and it was two friends who got in a fight.
"[It] escalated and ended with one of them getting shot," Sheriff Rogers said.
Hopkins said her heart goes out to everyone touched by this.
"It's heartbreaking. It's tragic, especially for everyone involved. Those involved and the families," Hopkins said.
