Man charged with murdering father, staging home invasion in cover-up
A man is facing murder charges for allegedly killing his father, and staging a home invasion in an attempt to cover-up.
Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien returned a four-count indictment on 20-year-old Jonah Bryce Lake. O'Brien said Lake is accused of killing his father, 50-year-old Dr. Kevin B. Lake.
The son was indicted for one count of Aggravated Murder with a Firearm Specification, for two counts of Murder with Firearm Specifications, and one count of Tampering with Evidence.
“There is one count of Aggravated Murder and two counts of Murder with only one victim death because there are different methods to commit the crime of murder and the Prosecutor’s Office typically charges all methods,” said O'Brien.
Dr. Lake had plead guilty in Federal Court to fraud, tax evasion, and drug charges. Between 2006 and 2013, O'Brien said Dr. Lake maintained the Columbus Southern Medical Center Clinic which provided unlawful prescriptions of controlled substances to addicts.
“Dr. Lake concealed his illegal profits and Federal Prosecutors forfeited $29 million from Dr. Lake for his illegal activity. Dr. Lake’s medical license was revoked and he was scheduled to be sentenced in September of this year,” said O’Brien.
On June 22, 2018, O'Brien said police and medics responded to reports of shots fired at the Lake home on Schleppi Road near New Albany.
Investigation revealed that a home invasion had been staged, and investigators believe Lake’s son Jonah was responsible for the murder.
Arraignment for Jonah Lake will be scheduled within a week.
