COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) — Two incidents on the west side of Columbus caused issues for commuters Tuesday morning.
The first incident happened on I-270 northbound near Roberts Road around 4:48 a.m. A rolled semi blocked all northbound lanes.
A hazardous materials team was dispatched to the semi around 5:30 a.m. Traffic was backed up as far as Georgesville Road during the morning commute. HAZMAT crews said there was a small leak that was contained by 7 a.m.
The road was not expected to reopen until 3 p.m. though. Police said the driver of the semi lost control on the ice. He was charged with failure to control.
The second incident that caused issues was on I-70 westbound between I-270 and Hilliard Rome Road. A semi caught fire and remained disabled on the highway around 3:00 a.m. One lane of I-70 westbound remained open around 6 a.m. All lanes were open by the end of the morning commute.
