Madison County Sheriff's Office is investigating a crash that left one person dead Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened just after 2 p.m. U.S. 42 just north of U.S. 42 in Deer Creek Township.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said a 2013 Chevrolet Avalanche was traveling northbound on U.S. 42 when it drove left from center striking a 2009 Ford Escape head on.

A driver of a third vehicle tried to avoid both car but was struck by the Chevrolet Avalanche. Authorities said the third vehicle drove off the road and hit a ditch.

Authorities said the driver of the Avalanche was taken to OSU Wexner by med-flight.

David Flowers, who was driving the Ford Escape, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident closed the road in both directions and the sheriff's office didn't know how many cars were involved.

ABC 6/FOX 28 will continue to follow this story.
